2. Lucas Cavallini – Striker – Canada

While newcomer Jonathan David may have grabbed all of the attention during Canada’s Gold Cup run, Lucas Cavallini was able to put up almost likewise numbers across tournament play, scoring five goals in four games for Les Rouges. The powerful center-forward has equally impressed at the club level as well, where he has scored consistently against some of the biggest names in Liga MX on numerous occasions.

With the addition of Cavallini, an MLS team would be getting a tough number nine that can play with his back to goal, win aerial duels, and finish with composure from anywhere inside the box. The Toronto native would also come as an enticing value for many MLS clubs as he would not take up an international roster spot if signed.

Potential Destinations – Montreal Impact

There is not a single team in Major League Soccer that needs a center-forward more than Montreal. Though the Impact may sit towards the top of the Conference table, the Canadian side currently has one of the worst goal differentials in the East. Few of their goals have come from the center-forward position, and with Ignacio Piatti potentially on his way out, a DP slot may soon open up for the likes of the Canadian poacher.

Cavallini may also favor the move as he may be tired of finishing in the middle of the table with Puebla, and may instead prefer to compete for championships with a team in his native country. If Piatti does in fact leave Montreal in the coming months, a move back home to Canada for Cavallini may be in the cards.
