Marky Delgado – Norman Powell

Two extremely hard workers who know a thing or two about getting dirty, Norman Powell’s motto of ‘understand the grind’ comes to represent both his and Marky Delgado’s games perfectly. Both are somewhat unsung heroes who, through hustle and drive, get minutes and positively affect their teams.

Powell was a godsend in the Eastern Conference Finals against Milwaukee, where he reprised his performance against those same Bucks from the Raptors’ 2016-17 playoff run and provided offensive production and gritty defence to offset some of the anaemic performances from other bench players. He returned back to earth in the Finals against Golden State, but he still ate up minutes while playing quality defence.

Delgado’s game has a similar feel to it. Sometimes, he seems like he is just a placeholder in the Toronto FC line-up, occupying a spot on the field and acting when needed. But away from the limelight, his influence is important. Neither of these guys are going to be game breakers, but a team simply cannot win a championship without a few guys like Powell or Delgado kicking around.
