8. 2012 Open Cup: San Antonio Scorpions 1-0 Houston Dynamo

2012 was a crazy year in the U.S. Open Cup as six MLS teams were defeated by USL Pro and NASL. opposition. However, the craziest loss from the lot was the San Antonio Scorpions’ victory over Houston Dynamo.

Not only did this have that added flavor of being a Texas derby, but it was also at a time when the Dynamo were on fire. They reached the MLS Cup final in both the year earlier and this season. In other words, the Dynamo, at the time, were easily the second best team in the land.

Despite their red hot form, they could not get one over their Texas natives from the NASL, and the Scorpions went onto register a very memorable evening for Texas soccer.
