16. Houston Dynamo – BBVA Compass Stadium – Houston, TX

Capacity: 22,000

Opened: 2012

Pros: Location, soccer-specific, natural surface, sightlines

Cons: HEAT

Not bad, but not great, BBVA Compass Stadium has a fair bit going for it. It’s located in the heart of downtown Houston and has that defined feel of a soccer stadium. While it provides more shade opportunities than its Texas brethren up in Frisco, players and fans alike are still subjected to the brutal Texas summers. I’ve personally always been kind of stumped by this stadium. It has the location, the team is back on the winning side of things, and Houston has always been a big sports town. So why do I see so many of those empty neon orange seats when I turn on a Dynamo home match? Houston is firmly entrenched in the bottom half of the league when it comes to attendance, even with the downtown location and quality product on the pitch. This one’s a bit of a mystery.
