6. D.C. United – Audi Field – Washington D.C.
Capacity: 20,000
Opened: 2018
Pros: Sightlines, original design, soccer-specific, natural surface, covered seats
Cons: Location (for now)
After surviving a tough opening night, Audi Field has settled in as an MLS ground fit for a king. The answer to the quickly deteriorating RFK Stadium has a standing section for supporters, crystal-clear sightlines, and a unique design both inside and out. With overhangs on both touchlines to protect fans from the elements, Audi Field is a venue truly worthy of the present era of MLS. While it is just blocks away from Nationals Park, the location is still a bit of a reach, as while the area around the Nationals’ home digs has seen massive development, the haunts around Audi Field still need time to catch up. In the future, when the neighbourhood surrounding this ground picks up, expect to see it higher on the list. In the meantime, it still sits in the realm of very good.
