MLS: Top 3 Daniel Sturridge landing spots following Liverpool departure
By Chris Smith
2. Portland Timbers
With Providence Park now opened once again, the Portland Timbers can look forward to a nice long stretch at home where, hopefully, they can kick on and climb back above the playoff line. To do so, however, they’re going to have to score more goals. Thus far, the Timbers have just 19 goals in 14 games, with only Vancouver Whitecaps (17) scoring fewer.

Brian Fernandez has gone a long way to easing their woes in front of goal, bagging four goals in just 205 minutes of MLS football since moving from Liga MX side, Necaxa. That said, Fernandez has scored four of Portland’s last six goals and to be totally reliant on just one player simply isn’t sustainable with so much of the season left to play.
As a club, Portland would certainly be attractive to Sturridge. They won the MLS Cup in 2015 and reached the final last year, firmly cementing themselves as one of the biggest names in Amerian soccer, while that newly revamped stadium has one of the best atmospheres you’ll find this side of the Atlantic.
In a playing sense, the thought of Sturridge feeding off Diego Valeri and Sebastian Blanco is enough to make most MLS fans purr with excitement. Two of the best creators in the division coupled with one of the Premier League’s most lethal goalscorers — even if only for a short time — surely spells nothing but danger for opposition defences.
