2. Shutout streak snapped

Atlanta United made it 526 minutes without conceding a goal, good enough for seventh-best in MLS history. While the team may be disappointed with the streak ending, it was an impressive feat, especially when looking at where the Five Stripes sat before the run began.

More from MLS Multiplex

When Atlanta last conceded a goal on April 20 against FC Dallas, the team lost 2-1 and sat second to last in the Eastern Conference with just five points on the season. In the six games since, Atlanta have grabbed 15 points and now sit fourth in the conference with 20 points and a game in hand (or two) on the three teams ahead of them. Their points per game is also good enough for third in the East.

If not for the single defensive lapse that led to New York’s lone goal, Atlanta would’ve been able to continue the streak of shutout soccer. Although the streak is over, Atlanta’s ability to stop teams from scoring is a testament to the progress the team is constantly making. The Five Stripes have only conceded nine goals this season, which is good enough for best in the league (along with league-leading LAFC).

Now, with a Friday night match against Real Salt Lake and home games against Minnesota United and Chicago Fire in the next 11 days, Atlanta can begin a new shutout streak.
