1. Brad Guzan

Atlanta United are in the midst of a historical streak of clean sheets. With their 1-0 win over Orlando they tied the record with four consecutive clean sheets. Brad Guzan has been a big part of that streak and he earned MLS Team of the Week honors as a result. He had a few acrobatic saves against Orlando and his steady play has helped Atlanta significantly.

How long is this sustainable? Well, probably as long as Guzan can keep up his goalkeeping heroics. The defense has played well almost all season and have yet to give up more than three goals at any time across all competitions. However, most of the teams goals have come as a result of an individual error.

Guzan has had his fair share of mistakes, including that embarrassing howler in the season opener against DC United. He also made a few poor choices with his passing out of the back that nearly led to a goal or two this past week. Most of Atlanta’s goals conceded are a result of Guzan’s teammates making a mistake.

The difference in this recent shutout streak versus prior matches is Guzan’s individual skill. He has been on top of his game in the last few weeks and has bailed his teammates out consistently. If he continues at this high level it may be a while before Atlanta concede another goal.
