New York City FC and Minnesota United FC played to an entertaining 3-3 draw as Allianz Field was opened on Saturday. Here are the NYCFC player ratings.

New York City FC helped Minnesota United FC open their new stadium, Allianz Field, last Saturday. Neither team got the result they were looking for. Minnesota United wanted a win in their grand opening, while New York City FC are still looking for their first win of the 2019 season. However, they engaged in an entertaining back-and-forth contest, which featured plenty of goals.

It seemed as though goalkeeper Sean Johnson gave the match away, misplaying a back pass from Ebenezer Ofori and allowed it to roll into his own goal. That gave the home team a 3-2 lead. However, Ismael Tajouri-Shradi rose to the occasion and rescued the visiting team. He scored a special free kick from a tight angle in the second half, earning a draw for NYCFC.

New York City FC manager, Domenec Torrent, changed his lineup once again. With starting center-back Alexander Callens injured, Torrent opted to go with a back three for the first time this season. This move had mixed results. The team looked more dangerous in attack than they had all season, thanks in large part to the partnership of Valentin Castellanos and Ismael Tajouri-Shradi, but also leaked three goals in the first half. Torrent brought Alexandru Mitrita on to start the second half, pulling one of his center-backs, and moving back to a back four. Less goals were scored in the second half following this change, and the result was a draw.

Goalkeeper

GK – Sean Johnson – 3

Sean Johnson had an evening he will want to forget. Minnesota United managed just three shots on target. Two of those found the back of the net. Johnson made just a single save. Furthermore, Minnesota’s final goal was an own goal by Johnson. He made a poor touch with the outside of his foot on a routine back pass from Ebenezer Ofori. That kind of mistake is inexcusable at the professional level. Luckily, for Johnson and New York City FC, Ismael Tabour-Shradi picked him up in the second half scoring the equalizer.

In addition to his poor goalkeeping, Johnson struggled with his distribution. He completed just three of his 11 attempted long passes, and his overall passing accuracy was 71.4%.
