The latest star player to be linked to a possible MLS move is Bayern Munich’s, Arjen Robben, who has been named as a possible target for Toronto FC. The Dutch superstar would take the Reds to a new level.

Bundesliga legend Arjen Robben appears to be making a move to Major League Soccer at the conclusion of the 2018-19 European season. Reports have linked the Dutch winger to Toronto FC as the Reds look to land another star player.

Robben would be joining whichever club he ends up at on a free transfer, with his contract expiring this summer. This would be mean he could join Toronto at the end of Bayern Munich’s season without a transfer fee needing to be paid.

As Toronto have recently added Alejandro Pozuelo to the line-up, the Canadian club could be on the brink of completing two massive signings for the season. Pozuelo has already had an impact on the Reds and Robben would certainly be a player who could do the same.

If there is a player in MLS who has a similar signature move to Robben’s cut-inside-and-left-foot-strike, it is Carlos Vela. And every team in MLS knows how effective Vela has been on his left foot. Robben, you would sense, could have similar success to what Vela has been to do.

At 35, Robben is entering the twilight of his career. But he still has the pedigree and scoring ability to help provide Toronto with another threat in attack. If he ends up in Toronto, expect a lot of goals to come from left-footed curlers into the top corner.

It is hard to see him struggling to help contribute to Toronto’s revitalized offense. He has a proven track record of assisting and scoring goals for every club he’s played for, and with the likes of Pozuelo and Jozy Altidore already at the club, there is talent for Robben to work with from day one.

More from MLS Multiplex

A few weeks ago, Toronto had been thoroughly defeated in the CONCACAF Champions League and were handed an early exit to a competition they reached the final in a year prior. It seemed as if the club was headed for another disastrous season. All this came after a turbulent offseason. On-field issues with Gregory van der Wiel saw his departure, as well as Sebastian Giovinco’s transfer to Saudi Arabia and Victor Vazquez’s exit.

Everything appeared to be pointing to more losses and disappointment. However, Toronto have strung together an impressive start to the season and are sitting near the top of the Eastern Conference table, still yet to lose a match. They have proven themselves to be one of the better teams in the East and will be pushing for a playoff place come the end of the year.

Robben would be joining a club that is trending upwards and his arrival could be the pivotal signing Toronto need to set themselves apart as an elite force in MLS. That is a very exciting prospect indeed.
