1. Will the offense have to carry the USWNT?

The dominance that was displayed in 2018 has not been there in 2019. Specifically, the USWNT have had trouble keeping clean sheets thus far. From what we’ve seen, the offense will need to carry the USWNT through the World Cup. They are not strong enough at the back to contain the other top teams.

France showed the major holes in the defense with England and Japan also finding weaknesses. In the England and Japan fixtures, the offense was able to answer the call and at least salvage a point.

Similarly, In Thursday’s match, the USWNT fell behind and finally got going when the attack took off. However, a goal by Australia in the 84th minute produced a bit of a tighter finish to the match then it should have been.

At the moment, the offense will have to be firing on all cylinders if the USWNT hope to defend their World Cup title in France this summer.
