1. David Beckham

The OG. Without this man, the MLS is not what it is today, period. Zlatan, Rooney, Henry, Gerrard, Villa, Pirlo. It is hard to see any of them playing in the MLS without considering the impact of the ex-United hero, David Beckham.

Becks shocked the world when he joined Los Angeles Galaxy back in 2007, three years after leaving United. However, it was back in Manchester where this man was made just before he turned the MLS into a global attraction.

The Englishman was part of the famous Class of ’92 for United and helped build an insane trophy cabinet for the club. Later, he would come to America, entirely transform American soccer, and win two MLS Cups with the Galaxy along the way.

Grassroots soccer, college soccer, the increase in fans, the worldwide audience, a lot of it comes back to one man. Put it this way, there is a reason he has a statue. Thank you for everything you’ve done for our game, Becks.
