New York City FC were frustratingly pegged back twice on Sunday by Los Angeles FC in a 2-2 draw. Here are the NYCFC player ratings.

In the end, it was an underwhelming draw for New York City FC. Hosting the mighty Los Angeles FC on Sunday and largely outplaying them, Dome Torrent’s side twice took a deserved lead. But thanks to some uncharacteristic errors at the back, LAFC twice pegged them back and scarpered home with a precious point.

It was Carlos Vela who was the primary menace, the leading MVP candidate at this early stage notching both LAFC goals. For New York City FC, Alexandru Mitrita opened his scoring account, which should be an encouraging sign for the year to come.

Goalkeeper

GK – Sean Johnson – 5.5

Sean Johnson was fine in this match. He did not have much to do, as LAFC only put four shots on target. LAFC’s two goals came from mistakes: the penalty and a bad giveaway by Maxime Chanot that sprung Carlos Vela alone in the box. Johnson’s distribution was good (as it generally is). His passing accuracy was 85%, and seven of his 11 long balls were successful.
