MLS Week 3: Top 7 storylines to follow
2. Atlanta searches for first MLS win
Atlanta United were tossed from the CCL this week despite defeating Mexican giants, Monterrey, at home. This may be a blessing as they can now focus all of their attention on the MLS season. Atlanta has started slow under new manager, Frank de Boer. They lost to D.C. United in the season opener and suffered a draw against FC Cincinnati following a late breakthrough from Roland Lamah.
Pity Martinez was supposed to come to Atlanta and continue the legacy begun by Miguel Almiron. He has thus far been a major disappointment and is still looking for his first goal with the team. It is important that he starts to put together good performances; the team will need him at his best in order to contend for the MLS Cup this year.
It has not been an ideal start to the season for the Five Stripes whatsoever. Hosting the Philadelphia Union this weekend, they must try to find their first win of the year.
