3. Playoff hopefuls or frontrunners?

The Columbus Crew and FC Dallas both shined in the second week of the MLS season. They now face each other in what should be an exciting cross-conference match. The winner, if there is a winner, could emerge as an MLS Cup frontrunner.

FC Dallas defeated the Galaxy 2-0 last week. They had four players named to MLSMultiplex’s Team of the Week, and Paxton Pomykal turned heads given a chance to start.

Columbus also won 2-0 last week, defeating the New England Revolution at home. I had questions for the Crew after Gregg Berhalter left this offseason to manage the USMNT. However, after drawing with the New York Red Bulls in Week 1 and winning last week, the Crew are dispelling those. Gyasi Zardes does not seem affected by the managerial switch; he scored a brace last week.
