East Coast Clashes

New York City FC (6) are still showing signs of an adjustment period but were able to hold D.C. United (5) to a scoreless draw. New DP signing Alexandru Mitrita had the best chance of the evening from a freekick even David Villa would find difficult. The defense should bring fans the most optimism. Holding D.C. United scoreless will be an achievement few accomplish.

Bill Hamid saved the point for D.C. Wayne Rooney and the rest of the team looked to be saving the knee ligaments. Going into New York and playing to a scoreless point was about the best outcome.

The Chicago Fire (17) have needed massive mistakes by their opponents to pull even a single goal per game. CJ Sapong was gifted in different ways the past two weeks. This time, Sapong had yards of free space to head in the equalizer against Orlando City (16).

Orlando City gave up road points even though playing with a man advantage. They were out-possessed at a 60-40 % clip and only managed two shots all game. In extra time, the team sought a second goal, rather than some game-winning and time-wasting tactics over near the corner flag. It cost them.

Two weeks now, Dom Dwyer being offside led to a goal conceded just moments later. Shane O’Neil forgot to play the last ten seconds of the game, after looking below average for most of the game. Will John O’Connor’s post-game rant reach the intended audience or just another OCSC locker room with no playoff future?
