Best of the West

LAFC (1) handled Portland Timbers (10) at home in what was another glorious soccer scene. The more MLS can advertise that excitement, the better. LAFC has the talent to play the exciting soccer to match, with Carlos Vela already stating his MVP intentions.

Portland is again starting the season with a road trip due to stadium construction. 12 road games will take its toll, but the Timbers should be more competitive to start the season. The record without Diego Chara will get another test next week as he was sent off for that flick of an ear and theatric Diego Rossi tumble.

The Timbers have allowed seven goals in two games. The trip to Cincinnati will be another party atmosphere for the hosts. Will Portland’s season crumble before ever playing a home game?

LAFC, meanwhile, might have the most dynamic bench in the league. The chants for Latif Blessing brings chills to all watching and Adama Diomande coming on fresh brings terror to defenses. Bob Bradley still has Andre Horta in reserve as well. No question, LAFC is the easily the team playing the best soccer in MLS presently.
