MLS Week 1: First impressions of all 24 teams
Seattle Sounders
The Sounders did what was expected of them, but they did so in style beating FC Cincinnati 4-1 at home. Jordan Morris used the last fifteen minutes of the first half to announce his comeback. Paired with Raul Ruidiaz and Nicolas Lodeiro, the Sounders should avoid anything close to a slow start. Hosting the Colorado Rapids this weekend, Sounders fans will expect nothing less than another win.
Stephan Frei has the condolences of keepers worldwide, as none were going to save Bertone’s scorching volley. Seattle responded well, controlling the last 70 minutes of the match. Kelvin Leerdam will need to sort out his excursions forward, but overall, the defense was able to keep the team’s possession fluid. Gustav Svennson and Cristian Roldan had little issues shuttling the ball forward in attack.
This Seattle team is one of the best that has been assembled in some time. Given their relentless success, that really is saying something. They are true contenders, make no mistake.
