Losing away to LAFC, after playing midweek and being down a man, is nothing to be ashamed of. But Peter Vermes knows his team let a point slip away. Vermes decided to roll with the A-team just days after a CCL dog fight. Another CCL game on Tuesday meant that Vermes had a difficult decision to make.

He chose, unlike some others, to stick with his stars. Conceding in added-time looked like a sure-fire sign of fatigue, which would be understandable. Vermes, though, said his players weren’t overly tired, they just suffered a lapse in concentration. Watching Adama Diomande’s strike back, you can understand his perspective.

Nevertheless, this was a spirited, encouraging display from one of the most complete teams in MLS. How the CCL is juggled remains to be seen, but Vermes has plenty of depth to call upon should he need it. Also, Kristian Nemeth scoring goals is no bad thing.
