MLS Week 1: First impressions of all 24 teams
LA Galaxy
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is on pace for over 40 goals, if he keeps up his goal-every-80-minutes pace. You would be a brave man to bet against him. He stated in the offseason that he would break every MLS record. The crazy thing is, he might be right.
The Galaxy had to work harder than most imagined to earn all three points, but it is good that Zlatan’s other teammates are willing to dig deep for a win. Last season, the Galaxy were accused of being overpaid while smugly underperforming. Giovanni dos Santos was the most guilty party, and so he was jettisoned from the team, with the DP rules eventually abided by.
The Fire created a host of chances and LA should have conceded more, if not for some wasteful finishing on their opponent’s part. The defense was a major issue last term, even though it was the highest-paid unit in the league. It will be again this time around. But with Zlatan leading the line, will it even matter?
