Real Salt Lake

Mike Petke spent the last day of the 2018 season worried about a point and the playoffs. Real Salt Lake began 2019 by giving away a road win to accept the draw. Petke’s late-game changes will be assigned most of the blame, though Kyle Beckerman’s weary legs might have to shoulder some.

Real Salt Lake’s defense held FC Dallas in check for all but one moment. Nick Rimando only had one save to make, but failed, allowing FC Dallas to draw level. Marcelo Silva did well to cover for a cavalier Brooks Lennon, who was acres away from the proper positioning on FC Dallas’ goal.

Everton Luis did most of the midfield work, with Beckerman mostly directing traffic. Jefferson Savarino and Corey Baird shuttled the ball forward, Damir Kreilach held it up, and Albert Rusnak banged home the opening goal. Real Salt Lake could not find a winner and gave up too much when trying to decide on end game tactics. That cost them two points, and it isn’t the first time.
