FC Cincinnati, the newest addition to MLS, took the field against the Seattle Sounders on Saturday night. Here are three things we learned from the season opener.
It was the dawning of a new era for FC Cincinnati on Saturday as they played their first-ever Major League Soccer fixture against the Seattle Sounders. The highly anticipated match ended up being the Jordan Morris show, though, as the striker made his return for the Sounders from a season-ending ACL injury in 2018.
Morris’ brace was crucial in getting the Sounders a 4-1 victory to open up the campaign. Although it was a rough start for FC Cincinnati, the club was posed with a very difficult fixture to open up their life in MLS.
Here are three things we learned from both club’s season opener.
3. FC Cincinnati starts strong but fades in second half
What an amazing start it was for FC Cincinnati. Leonardo Bertone unleashed a rocket of strike that silenced CenturyLink Field. That was the exact start they needed to set them up for a successful night on the road. However, the newly formed roster soon showed that it’s lacking and is unable to compete with the league’s best.
The second half was a tough one for FC Cincinnati as they struggled to generate quality scoring chances and allowed the Sounders to run away with the three points in the end. It was not a horrible performance by any means, but there’s work to be done in the coming weeks.
