MLS: Ranking the 5 CCL teams
1. Atlanta United
Signing the South American Player of the Year is not an offseason move to be trifled with. Atlanta United may have lost Miguel Almiron in the offseason, but replacing him with Pity Martinez is not exactly the worst swap deal in the world.
The goal of global stardom for the Five Stripes will come to pass with their success in competitions like the CCL and Club World Cup — they will qualify for the latter by winning the CCL. And this year, they are one of the favourites, alongside Tigres and Monterrey. They have as good a chance of success as any in the field.
One slight problem is that they are set to face Monterrey in the quarter-finals. They did not receive a draw as kind as the Red Bulls’, for instance. But with Atlanta looking to go to the final anyway, they knew they would have to face the likes of Monterrey at one stage or another.
With stars all over the pitch and goal galore from a slew of attacking weapons, this Atlanta United team might be the best in the CCL field. It is why they are number one in these rankings.
