2. August 24th vs New York Red Bulls

The match that fans of Major League Soccer circle on their calendar each year, the Hudson River Derby will once again be a must-watch affair in 2019.

The three times New York City FC and the New York Red Bulls faced in 2018 MLS play weren’t enough to declare a series winner. The Red Bulls enjoyed a 4-0 win in May while City earned a draw and a win in the two games they hosted.

With FC Cincinnati joining the Eastern Conference, these two sides will only see each other twice in the regular season. Red Bull Arena will host the first derby, a mid-July battle, before they go head to head in the Bronx.

Both sides head into this season without players who played big roles in previous years. NYCFC may struggle to get past the Red Bull’s strong defensive line without David Villa up front, while a Tyler Adams-lacking Red Bulls team may leave room for NYCFC to set up shop in the middle of the park.

New York City FC’s manager Domènec Torrent is yet to lose a Hudson River Derby in his short tenure. He will surely be aiming to continue that through 2019.
