Houston Dynamo eMLS player Kid M3mito – Guillermo Memo Treviño – starts 2019 with a startling loss. Yet, this undefeated 2018 eMLS champion still stands.

Kid M3mito took the inaugural eMLS Cup playing at PAX East gaming festival, held April 2018. He finished the year ranked 10th worldwide and second in the Americas playing EA Sports FIFA 2019 on the Xbox.

His first loss in eMLS competition came January 22 when Kid M3mito rose to the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference. He advanced to the final round against Philadelphia Union’s Doolsta. His opponent won the League Series One title and a $5,000 prize.

Kid M3mito vowed a comeback in League Series Two, set for Dallas in February. This tournament will set seeding for eMLS Cup in March. Participants will earn points for the EA Sports Global Series Playoffs.

Despite the year-opening loss, though, the Houston Dynamo has confidence matching Kid M3mito. After all, in the inaugural year of eMLS, he went 19-0-3 and outscored opponents 94-47. So the Dynamo have re-signed Treviño for another season.

And this season is different. As Kid M3mito saw in League Series One against Doolsta, his opponents have studied him and will put up more of a fight. Also, MLS expanded the eMLS field by three teams, bringing the total number of competitors to 22. The currently played eMLS series resulted from that expansion. The eMLS Cup competition then happens in March. Suddenly, Kid M3mito’s task is that much tougher.

With his early defeat, Kid M3mito has a full, bitter taste of the competition. His opponents have increased in number. And they’ve increased in competition. He knows he won’t steadily and mercilessly shred his way through the field as he did in 2018.

Yet the player will prevail. He came close to doing that in the final against the Philadelphia Union competitor. Kid M3mito held a 3-2 lead late when Doolsta flew back with a couple of goals and took it. The Houston Dynamo eMLS player will be ready in League Series Two. He’ll win but it won’t be a steam-roll affair. And he’ll move steadily, and more carefully, to reach for another eMLS Cup.

While Kid M3mito’s favored console is Xbox, the 2019 eMLS Cup will be fought on PlayStation 4 as the official console. So he’ll face that challenge as well, plus competitors from new teams representing DC United, Atlanta United and FC Cincinnati.

This year’s eMLS competition is much tougher. It won’t be a clear path to the championship. But it’s nothing Kid M3mito can’t handle for the Houston Dynamo.
