Reports have surfaced linking Deportivo de La Coruña midfielder Carles Gil to the New England Revolution. Is this the boost the Revolution need in 2019 to kick start their offence?
A big move could be on the way for the New England Revolution. Reports from Spain have hinted at the possible transfer of attacking midfielder Carles Gil to the Revolution in the offseason.
Gil is currently playing for Deportivo de La Coruña, who play in the Spanish second division after being relegated from La Liga last season.
Through the 2018-19 season, he has made 18 appearances in LaLiga 2 and one appearance in the Copa Del Rey. With one goal and one assist to his name.

The Revolution have been fairly quiet thus far in the offseason transfer market and this move would certainly make up ground for improving their squad heading into 2019.
At 26, Gil would be making his second move away from Spanish football in his career. Having started out at Valencia in 2014, the midfielder was transferred to Aston Villa where he would make 34 appearances for the English club, 28 of which were in the Premier League. He returned back to Spain this past summer permanently after spending some time on loan at Deportivo de La Coruña.
If you’re unfamiliar with Gil’s playing time thus far take a look at this goal he scored in the FA Cup a few seasons ago.
Gil’s transfer to the Revolution would give the Eastern Conference club another option on the attack after losing Lee Nguyen in 2018 to LAFC. Since then, the Revolution have not brought in a player of Nguyen’s caliber to help fill the void. As a result, the club did struggle somewhat in goal scoring as they finished with a minus-six goal differential.
This is a signing that would make sense for the Revolution as they are lacking the offensive spark needed to stay in the hunt for the top six spots in their conference. An addition is needed and Gil could be the player that gives them the boost they seek to go and win more matches this year.
Gil has the experience of playing in European top flights to bring to the Revolution. There isn’t quite a player like Gil on their roster already which would make his experience invaluable to the younger players at the club. Keep an eye on this move as it has the potential to be of the biggest of the offseason in Major League Soccer.
