Elite Eight

team. 375. Portland have been dominant at home in Providence Park, but have also needed to prove they can win a tense game on the road. Generating good chances is essential for a good season, but finishing half chances is paramount to playoff success. The Timbers failed to do so against the top seed at home last week. Portland was all focus in front of goal at Real Salt Lake. However, Portland has to keep Diego Chara on the field to have any structure or chances of wins.. 14-9-9. Previous: 8th. Portland Timbers. 8

team. 374. Philadelphia still has a chance at a trophy. The Union have clinched a playoff spot and have found avenues to constant chances on goal. Cory Burke, Alejandro Bedoya, and Fafa Picault are a trident of pressure on the opposing teams’ channels. Even CJ Sapong has found a way to be dangerous, if not clinical in front of goal. Ilsinho provides a spark off the bench, while the defense in front of Andre Blake continues to grow by leaps and bounds developmentally. The youngest backline in the league has made the grade.. 15-12-5. Previous: 5th. Philadelphia Union. 5

FC Dallas have slowly built momentum and understanding through the season and appear to be efficient if not stylish in almost every game. Against an already eliminated Orlando City, FC Dallas again held possession and let Maxi Urruti orchestrate a couple of goals. Michael Barrios provides a direct avenue of speed and service down the flank. Santiago Mosquera came on as a sub and opened the scoring within minutes. Victor Ulloa sealed the game minutes after. FC Dallas are the quiet storm rolling through the regular season to the playoff hills.. 16-6-9. Previous: 4th. FC Dallas. 3. team. 370

Previous: 1st. New York Red Bulls. 1. team. 373. The New York Red Bulls 2-0 win over Atlanta last week provided them with confidence, and proof, that Atlanta is beatable. If Atlanta slips, the Red Bulls can still take the top spot in the East. Once Bradley Wright-Phillips and Tyler Adams are incorporated back into the starting eleven, no team will want to play New York. It does look like Chris Armas’ team will be a conference finalist at worst. Wright-Phillips looked in peak form in the 3-1 win. Alex Muyl shined while Tyler Adams and Danny Royer are still being worked into fitness.. 20-7-5
