Middle of the Road

13-15-4. Previous: 16th. Montreal Impact. 15. team. 371. The Impact will have little if any significance in the playoffs. Montreal laid an egg in Washington D.C. in what was an eliminator game for the last Eastern Conference playoff spot. With a win or tie, D.C. United would have been all but eliminated. Instead, Montreal gave up a handful of goals and all the playoff race momentum. Now the Impact are only two points clear of D.C. United and D.C. have two games in hand. Making the playoffs may placate Joey Saputo, but the MLS world knows this team will provide little resistance to good playoff teams. The 3-0 win against Columbus was required to stay above the playoff line.

team. 337. The United States Open Cup champion sounds nice, and even gets the politicians’ attention, but unless Houston make some bold moves that pan out, that CCL berth will be short-lived. Beating San Jose took more effort than any top side should need to exert. The drop off in quality and depth in Houston’s roster is just too steep, and the reserve line-up is too flimsy to expect the Dynamo to make deep runs in all competitions next year. What will Wilmer Cabrera prioritize this offseason? Houston does not have the fanbase to withstand a season like Toronto just experienced.. 9-14-8. Previous: 13th. Houston Dynamo. 13

322. Corey Baird keeps earning those Rookie of the Year votes. Nick Rimando is again near the top of MLS Goalkeeper of the Year polls. But Real Salt Lake, as a team, is prone to inconsistent performances which turn into routs.  Salt Lake started slow but made a decent run in the summer. Now they are again on the wrong end of blowouts. This 4-1 loss to Portland was worse than the 5-1 loss to LAFC in Week 2.. 13-12-7. Previous: 11th. Real Salt Lake. 12. team
