It’s the waning weeks of the 2018 MLS season and the final standings are becoming increasingly clear. Here are the Week 32 MLS Power Rankings.

It was another entertaining week of MLS action as the final shake-up grows steadily clearer with each passing result. Thanks to the New York Red Bulls beating the San Jose Earthquakes and Atlanta United overcoming the New England Revolution, the Supporters’ Shield race is coming down to the wire. The US Open Cup and Canadian champion are settled for the season. And San Jose, Colorado and Orlando City are all contending for the Wooden Spoon.

While some teams had playoff or bust written on their season, others can be content with a decent mid-table position and hope for next season. On those terms, let’s rank the MLS teams through Week 32.

Bottom of the Barrel

Orlando City SC. 23. team. 327. Orlando City has had a season to forget. Most fans have all but forgotten the last win, and those stirring comebacks to begin the season are loathed for the false hope given. What seemed a playoff roster now has the reputations as one of the worst, most toxic MLS teams in years. Coaches and players both have been jettisoned, yet results have not improved. Spector, Sane, and Ascues have had intermittent productive spells, but the offense has been near cadaver like in it’s approach to attacking energy.. 7-19-4. Previous: 21st

368. The Rapids are last in the league for shots on goal and actual goals and four points off the pace for a Wooden Spoon trophy. The Rapids had zero points and one goal in September. Hudson is seemingly doubling down on a transfer policy that resulted in the most underwhelming MLS overhaul since Beckham and Guillit. Acosta, Castillo and Ford are the best assets to build around, while the DP signings are all lacking value for their roster spot, much less their wages. The Rapids are yet again in a no-win offseason. Clean house and they’ve wasted a year, while sticking with the core inspires little confidence. Tim Howard is declining quick as well. The team needs a spine of signings: centerback, midfielder, actual striker. The Rapids managed on one shot against LAFC.. 6-19-6. Previous: 19th. Colorado Rapids. 21. team

Previous: 18th. New England Revolution. 19. team. 372. New England is mired in mediocrity. Draws keep the points trickling in, but the slow drip of one-point weeks is not enough. Running off high-priced attacking talent has cost Friedel in his first season. The Revs have won only four games since May because chances on goal have been slowly declining. Without a dynamic attacking conduit, the Revs shouldn’t bother expecting the playoffs next year either.. 8-12-11

377. The 4-1 win over New England was too little too late for the Reds. The Whitecaps loss smothered any flickers of hope for this season. With rumors of stars departing, Toronto’s farewell to last year’s champs is a season of unfulfilled potential. Giovinco call-up to the Italian national team suggests he will move on to another league to stay in their good graces. Toronto must win out to have a chance, but, besides a couple of games, this team has looked spent for the better part of the summer. The team will need reinforcements, if not a total make-over. The 2019 CCL campaign starts soon for Toronto. A repeat of this season would spell doom for the front office.. 9-16-6. Previous: 17th. Toronto FC. 18. team
