The playoff push is now well and truly here with several teams scrapping for desperate points. And so, here are the MLS Week 30 Power Rankings, in which the Philadelphia Union are on a roll.

The MLS regular season has its quirks but the ultimate goal for every team is always the same: qualify for the MLS Cup playoffs. Teams with playoff passports already stamped are playing for the Supporters’ Shield, while San Jose has all but wrapped up the first trophy of the season, the unwanted Wooden Spoon.

For MLS, Week 30 was another fascinating affair. The rich got richer, the poor got poorer, and the Philadelphia Union youth movement proved that they will be dangerous when the playoffs roll around.

Bottom of the Barrel

Last season’s records and the early season CONCACAF Champions League run will be remembered fondly in time. At present, it is obvious the team has given up or is burned out, if not both. The stars are rumored to on the move for one last payday and a less tense locker room. This Toronto squad has been hyper alert for over a year, and this season is finally coming to an exhausting close. The reserves will need to play to spoil, as Toronto’s ceiling is likely now just seventh in the East. Those season records may possibly fall this year, while the underwhelming title defense will loom over the offseason.. 8-15-6. . Toronto FC. 18. team. 377

372. A run of results heavy on ties has left New England floundering as a midtable team with a frugal front office and a conservative coaching identity. There is little intrigue left to the season or to this team’s true nature. Brad Freidel had a decent first season. Progress and some form of relationship with the high-priced attacking talent that runs the league are required next season. Friedel cannot afford to be so pragmatic or he will lose the dressing room. The front office, equally, cannot be so frugal or they will lose the fanbase.. 8-10-11. . New England Revolution. 17. team
