Elite Eight

Previous: 5th. Portland Timbers. 6. team. 375. Gio Savarese was admittedly experimental in the loss, which was played without Diego Chara. Adi is in Cincy giving quotes that might unsettle most coaches, but Gio had to deal with the NASL quagmires. Three losses in a row (9 GC, 2 GS) have cooled down the Portland hype, but the Timbers still have a few games in hand. Now they are in a playoff battle, with Seattle coming to Portland next. The winner is above the playoff line; the loser is below. A draw could see both fall into a three-way tie with Vancouver. Portland is great at home, but their road form is the worst of all the playoff contenders. Their remaining home schedule has only one non-playoff team (Rapids) visiting Providence Park. Only two non-playoff teams are on the road docket. Tough sledding, but playoff places still must be earned, even in MLS.. 10-5-7

team. 370. Minnesota obliged to sit back and defend since they were without both their captain and best attacker. FC Dallas was more clinical than full of flair in the win, but the three points were desperately needed by the team sitting in first out West. Last season’s collapse was being brought up more frequently, and a result again the Loons was needed to quell the storm. Next week, the Hoops visit Houston looking to finish off a dire-looking Dynamo. Oscar Pareja leading FC Dallas to a win would put the questions behind them for good with nothing but the playoffs to look forward to.. 13-4-6. Previous: 6th. FC Dallas. 4

2. team. 373. Cross-country road points are hard to come by, but the Red Bulls pulled a point out of Vancouver with a late equalizer. Tyler Adams is becoming a star before our eyes. Royer has impressed and proved at least one doubter wrong. The Red Bulls have a tough week ahead. The city rivalry with NYCFC heads to Yankee Stadium while the old boys of D.C. United are coming to Harrison with a renewed swagger. The Supporters’ Shield is still within reach but Chris Armas is still tinkering to find the team he wants. He has five games in two weeks to find his way into a trophy or possibly falling into a battle for the third and fourth position in the East.. 15-6-3. Previous: 2nd. New York Red Bulls
