Middle of the Road

7-9-6. Previous: 19th. D.C. United. 14. team. 369. D.C. United took down Portland in such a convincing fashion in the midweek that some weary legs and the comedown from the adrenaline high might have taken a toll on the team. With the playoffs still within reach, Ben Olsen’s side dominated and the scoreboard arguably flattered the Revs. Audi Field may lack the charm of the racoons, but the Barra Brava and friends have made the new stadium a great atmosphere to play in. D.C. United made up ground in the playoff race with nine points in the last week and four wins in a row at home. Now, they are better odds to earn a playoff spot than miss out.

371. Most teams on a slide have been able to count on taking full points from a game against Chicago. Despite Taider drawing a penalty and Piatti converting, the Impact needed an account-opening goal from defender Daniel Lovitz in the 91st minute to secure the win. Only the two goals counted as shots on target. Without getting shots on frame, the Impact will have very little in the playoffs if they make like Lovitz and squeak out the result in the dying stages when wasted chances led to the precarious situation.. 10-13-3. Previous: 14th. Montreal Impact. 13. team

Previous: 13th. Philadelphia Union. 12. team. 374. The Union have found goals and become fun to watch. The season-long rant against Sapong being included has no better example than this game. Bedoya and Dockal have found the same page in the same library. The attackers are finally working in unison, catching whispers of the Bedoya-Dockal brainstorming initiatives. The wingers are buzzing through the channels and Burke, as a striker, has worked wonderfully. CJ Sapong has at least been serviceable but had more fouls than shots again in this game.. 10-11-3

10-9-5. Previous: 9th. Real Salt Lake. 9. team. 322. Real Salt Lake was looking at a losing streak and moments away from dropping below the playoff line. Then Albert Rusnak remembered he gave a halftime speech and scored both the equalizer and the winner after the 90th minute. Securing a playoff spot will come down to the final day as well, unless Salt Lake can start converting chances and putting away lesser teams. Mike Petke’s team can dominate a game, but squeak out a win. However, even the RSL B-game has been destroyed by teams above them in the rankings. Fiery speeches only work for so long.
