1. Martinez closes in on scoring record

Atlanta United striker Josef Martinez is just one goal away from breaking the MLS single-season goalscoring record. The fact I am writing this in August is a testament to how impressive this feat really is.

His goalscoring rate is sensational. 27 goals in 25 games is the fastest rate that any player has ever scored that amount of goals. Martinez truly is one of the best natural goalscorers that MLS has ever seen.

And he will have his chance to etch his name into the history books when his side faces Orlando City on Friday night. He needs just one more goal to break the single-season record. In his current form, it could very well come this week.
