MLS continued its surge towards the playoffs this past week with a series of weekend and midweek contests. Here are the Week 24 MLS Power Rankings after another exciting few days of action.

What a week of MLS play. Again. Jozy Altidore’s red card was terrible, but not as bad as ESPN’s crew claiming it was only a yellow. Now Sebastian Giovinco can only watch as Toronto’s MLS Cup chances slip away.

Atlanta United, meanwhile, are no longer in the lead points per game wise, but they still atop the standings after an idle week. Zlatan does not believe his team deserves a playoff spot, and Wayne Rooney and D.C. United have the momentum and games in hand to still believe the playoffs are an attainable goal.

Yes, this was yet another crazy week in MLS action. Here are the week 24 MLS Power Rankings.

Bottom of the Barrel

21. team. 327. You’ve seen the highlight. Orlando City went from a point, to an open net for all three points, to being the laugh-reel of the highlight play sequence of Rooney’s astonishing efforts. O’Connor has not settled into the lead seat well, and it is doubtful a mid-season bye week retreat is the elixir to cure all of this team’s ills. OCSC games, come for the thrilling heartache, stay for the social media rage-post.. 7-15-2. Previous: 21st. Orlando City SC

Colorado Rapids. 20. team. 368. Three games, seven points, and a core of a team that might be formidable. The Rapids created just as many goals as they gave, and with points against LAFC this weekend, well, they still have a two percent chance of the playoffs this year. Acosta was worth the gamble, not all of Hudson’s signings have looked terrible, and Tim Howard might have a dozen more games left in his career. The jury is still out on whether Hudson deserves another year, or if Padraig needs to control all player signings.. 6-12-5. Previous: 22nd

337. Four straight losses, with only two points from the last six. It is never good when the best game you play all season is the season opener. Wilmer Cabrera’s Dynamo has regressed throughout the season, individually and collectively. A win at home in the US Open Cup final is now paramount to this season being even a partial success.. 7-6-10. Previous: 13th. Houston Dynamo. 18. team

17. team. 377. Toronto FC has more heart than Jozy Altidore has sense. Jozy must have just wanted the afternoon off to prepare for the Canadian Championship Cup final. TFC has a trophy, but only the slimmest of margins now to squeak into the playoffs to defend their crown. Considering the taxing nature of their season and their obvious frustration levels, Toronto no longer strike fear into opponents. A win in San Jose is all but necessary.. 6-12-5. Previous: 14th. Toronto FC
