Elite Eight

Previous: 9th. Real Salt Lake. 7. team. 322. Though the Fire were looking ahead to a U.S. Open Cup match, Real Salt Lake handled their business where other teams drop points. After the early-season hiccups, Real Salt Lake is earning points with clinical efficiency in games they should win. It’s the top-end teams that have soundly beaten RSL. Mike Petke’s men have yet to give up in a game, save that 5-1 drubbing at home early on. Kreilach and Rusnak are finding each other more often and RSL are looking more dangerous in the final third. Can they build on that momentum for the final run in?. 10-9-4

FC Dallas. 4. team. 370. Was Acosta that important? Did his trade sour the locker room, with everyone wondering who might be next? Will this blip against the worst team in the league be magnified after last season’s late implosion? Jesse Gonzalez let in two howlers while the FC Dallas attempts on goal were all wayward. FC Dallas has to prove they can finish a season, instead of just puttering to the end and hoping to finish above the playoff line. With Cannon injured against San Jose, the team’s depth and rotation will become even more troublesome for Pareja.. 12-4-6. Previous: 2nd

LAFC is a test for any defense and the Red Bulls passed with decent marks. Bradley Wright-Phillips was honored on a night that (checks box score) Royer hit for the winning brace. Royer has come on as a fairly decent attacking talent and BWP is more than just a poacher. Armas needs to iron out some quirks in the build-up play and clear some communication issues at the back, but even with the coaching change, NYRB is in the hunt for the double still.. 14-6-2. Previous: 5th. New York Red Bulls. 3. team. 373

2. team. 375. Ignore the early-season road trip and the Timbers are fifteen games unbeaten, with no losses at renovated Providence Park all season. Gio Savarese has taken his chances well in Portland, proving to be a top in-game tactician. Antinella may earn Goalkeeper of the Week honors with his performance. And with Chara setting the table for Valeri, the Timbers are chopping down any opposition in their wake.. 10-3-7. Previous: 3rd. Portland Timbers
