In honor of the All-Star game last week, the MLS Multiplex All Stars collaborated for this week’s power rankings. So, here are the Week 23 MLS Power Rankings.

The bottom two teams from the Week 22 MLS Power Rankings won but still occupy the basement, FC Dallas slipped up at home, making the top places in the West that much more congested, and there was a rip-roarer between potentially the two best teams in the East, even if the standings suggest otherwise. These things happen in the tumultuous MLS.

Coming out of a busy All-Star break, I’ve asked several of the MLS Multiplex All Stars to contribute to some teams they thought deserved a different spot in the rankings.

Bottom of the Barrel

5-12-5. Previous: 22nd. Colorado Rapids. 22. team. 368. Even without Zlatan in the lineup, the Rapids backline had problems. Tim Howard and the Galaxy’s lack of shot accuracy earned the points just as much as the two well-taken Rapids goals. Castillo and Acosta have finally added some decisive, smart decision making to the Rapids’ possession game, with the ball moving forward quicker as a result. The backline still needs sorting and Howard is still ageing, but the Rapids have a core to build on next year. Too bad that list doesn’t include most of Hudson’s preferred signings. No one in the Rapids front office can lay claim to finding Acosta, but he has been excellent in his role so far. Perhaps there is hope in the Rockies.

327. The Lions earned their point with a come-from-behind draw, but with six goals in the last two games, that is the only point Orlando has to show for their offensive production. Orlando has given up 12 goals in the last four games. Yoshi Yotun will miss the winnable game against DC United after receiving a red card this week. Until Spector and Sane are back, Orlando’s defense will be patchwork at best. With Yotun out and Dwyer not playing up to his reputation, the Lions will find points hard to come by with their August schedule. Six points below the playoff line, having played one more game, it’s time to start finding pieces for next season.. 7-14-2. Previous: 21st. Orlando City SC. 21. team

371. Montreal sit in fifth place in the East but are closer to 12th than fourth. With only two wins and one tie on the road, the Impact have the second least amount of points won in away games. Despite obvious holes in the first choice XI and an attack reliant on Piatti’s brilliance, the Impact made very few moves in the transfer window. They also made very few decent moves against DC United and had to settle for a disappointing draw. Of course, it was Piatti’s drive into the box that created a sitter for the goal.. 9-13-2. Previous: 18th. Montreal Impact. 17. team

team. 374. Even on their best day, the Union would have been hard-pressed to earn a result in Portland. Sitting three of their best starters with an eye towards the US Open Cup semi-final meant they were all but waving the white flag on the three points. Still, this makeshift lineup had plenty of regulars in the team and the Union showed little. This team has some decent MLS playoff-caliber starters but the talent dropoff is steep. And CJ Sapong still occupies a roster spot. The Union will supply little resistance against the top of the table.. 8-11-3. Previous: 14th. Philadelphia Union. 16
