USMNT abroad: Tim Weah scores first goal, Gooch scores late-winner and more
By Daniel Garza
Tim Weah scored his first competitive goal for PSG and Lydney Gooch scored a massive winner for Sunderland in stoppage time. Here is the USMNT abroad update.
The European season has gotten off to a fantastic start for the United States Men’s National Team representatives.
Tim Weah headlined Saturday’s action against Moncao in the French Supercup. The midfielder scored in the 67th minute en route to Paris Saint-Germain’s 4-0 win. It was his first competitive goal for PSG.
Lynden Gooch scored a late winner for Sunderland in their opening match of the League One season. It finished 2-1 as Sunderland defeated Charlton Athletic. The English club went down 1-0 early but battled back to take all three points.

Elsewhere, Shaq Moore scored for CF Reus in Liga 123 in a 2-0 victory over Reus B Cambrils. Moore is on a one-year loan from Levante.
Antonee Robinson had a stellar debut for Wigan in the English second division. The midfielder was involved in the build-up play for two of Wigan’s three goals. His club would go onto win 3-2 over Sheffield Wednesday. Robinson was just signed to a three-year deal by Everton but will remain on loan at Wigan for the remainder of the 2018-19 season.
Josh Sargent scored for Werder Bremen II in a 4-0 victory over Hamburg II. The striker now has two goals in his first two matches for Bremen’s second team.
In the Bundesliga 2, Julian Green was included in the starting XI and played 68 minutes for Greuther Furth in a 3-1 victory over Sandhausen.
Christian Pulisic recorded an assist for Borussia Dortmund against Stade Rennais in a friendly.
Despite a wealth of transfer rumors, it appears Dortmund are wanting Pulisic to stay put in Germany this season.
A transfer to the Premier League would be a massive step in the young player’s career but perhaps staying in the Bundesliga one more season will allow him to further develop in a starting role.
Matt Miazga has been confirmed to Nantes on loan. The Chelsea defender will be set to play in the French first division following his past few seasons in the Dutch Eredivisie.
Miazga was also linked to Caen in Ligue 1 but Nantes entered the race late to sign the defender. Nantes will start their season on Aug. 11. They finished ninth in the table last season and were 18th in the league in goals allowed. There is an option to buy following his season loan and if things go well for Miazga, he could very well end up in Ligue 1 in the coming years.
