Revolution 2-2 Galaxy: August 30, 2008

This was the beginning of the end for the Revolution golden era. In the second meeting of the season, New England looked to complete the season sweep of LA at home after a win out west on July 4. But the Galaxy fought hard and earned a road point in New England. But why was it the beginning of the end.

It all seemed routine when Taylor Twellman headed home the game’s opening goal midway through the first half. But something was off. He halted his celebration and uttered “I got a concussion” to teammate Shalrie Joseph before falling into the midfielder’s arms. It was an injury that stemmed Twellman’s issues with post-concussion syndrome.

The match marked the transition of top-scorer in MLS from Twellman to LA’s Landon Donovan, who bagged a brace in the match. Joseph tied it late for New England and the teams split the points in a match that altered the course of both franchises forever.
