MLS Cup Final 2002: Galaxy 1-0 Revolution

The first championship meeting between the two teams came at Gillette Stadium just six years into the league’s existence. New England had perhaps its best chance to win an MLS Cup very early into the club’s history and could have established itself as an early powerhouse.

Both teams fought hard and had some quality chances to score in regulation, but the teams held each other scoreless for the first 112 minutes.

Then it happened. One of many reasons Revolution fans hate Carlos Ruiz, but the biggest one for sure. In the blink of an eye, LA raced up field before Ruiz knocked the winning goal into the net past a sprawling Adin Brown. Ballgame. Season.
