NWSL weekly roundup: Houston Dash turn it around

The Houston Dash had a monster week in the NWSL winning two matches in a what proved to be an entertaining slate of action. Get the complete rundown of the latest in NWSL.
Eight matches highlighted the NWSL week that was as the North Carolina Courage entered with a large lead on second place Seattle Reign. On Wednesday, the Courage faced the Orlando Pride who were looking to end their opponents’ unbeaten streak.
What followed may just be the match of the season thus far. The Courage escaped with all three points after a last minute goal by Jessica McDonald. Three different times the Pride were able to answer the Courage but they ran out of time as the league leaders ended their week with on the winning side once more.
The Pride turned their disappointment to glory on Saturday. Five goals found the back of the net for the Florida club en route to a 5-2 win over the Chicago Red Stars. Alex Morgan and Sydney Leroux scored three of the five for the Pride.

Elsewhere, it was a big week for the Reign. The second place club had the opportunity to take six points from two matches against the bottom of the league clubs. However, the Dash quickly ended the Reign’s hopes of taking maximum points. A goal in the 92nd minute from Veronica Latsko helped earn the Dash a massive three points.
Houston made it two wins in two matches on Sunday. A brace from British striker Rachel Daly gave the Dash the goal support they needed in a 3-2 victory.
Megan Rapinoe salvaged three points for the Reign on Saturday as they added to Sky Blue’s woes winning 1-0. Seattle retains second place in the NWSL table as a result.
Portland Thorns kept pace with the other top clubs in the league following a 2-0 win over the Utah Royals. Christine Sinclair found the back of the net for the sixth time this season. The Canadian forward now leads the NWSL in goal scoring.

Wednesday’s mid-week match between the Courage and Thorns will be the match of the week. The two clubs met in the first week of the season with the Courage taking the win. Expect another close match between the two sides.
