A two-game losing streak came to a close on Saturday night as the Chicago Fire defeated Orlando City 2-1 on the road. Here are three things learned.

It was a bit of unlikely victory for the Chicago Fire after what was a disappointing last few weeks. Heading to Orlando and coming away with all three points was a huge win in the grand scheme of things. The win brings the Fire back into the playoff spot picture, they only trail by four points to the New England Revolution in sixth place.

Things started off well for the Fire. Aleksander Katai produced a moment of magic as his 13th free kick was perfectly placed into the back of the net.

Orlando City tied things up in the Crisitan Higuata scored for the home side.

Alan Gordon’s goal in the 82nd minute proved to be the winner. The striker took an ambitious shot from outside the 18 which was hit with enough pace to get past Orlando City goalkeeper Joe Bendik.

A late red card made things interesting as Mo Adams was sent off for violent conduct in the 89th minute. Chicago was able to hold on with Patrick McLain recording a much deserved first MLS win in net.

Here are three things we learned from the victory.

3. Gordon scores a stunner?

Give credit to Veljko Paunović for bringing on Gordon at halftime for what was a decisive moment in the match. Gordon is not one for spectacular strikes but what he showed on Saturday was perhaps one of the top goals of his career in MLS.

Having only scored twice this season, both goals have proven to be a great help to the Chicago Fire. His late goal against Toronto back in April and this goal against Orlando have each given the Fire points they absolutely needed.

Next up, No. 2 and No. 1.
