MLS: Will Chicharito transfer rumors amount to anything this time around?
By Daniel Garza
Once again, Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez has been linked with MLS clubs ahead of the next transfer window. It this time any different, though?
According to Mexican media site FutbolTotal, Chicharito is attracting attention from multiple MLS clubs. The clubs listed were DC United, LAFC, Columbus Crew, Real Salt Lake, and Colorado Rapids.
The Mexican forward is currently a member of West Ham United in the Premier League. It has not been a notable campaign for Chicharito this season, with 30 appearances in all competitions he has scored eight goals. During the second half of the English season, he has primarily been used as a substitute. Recently, he had a big moment against Chelsea, scoring a game-tying goal to earn the Hammers a point.
It appears there is a possibility he will be done after this season with the Premier League club and his next destination is not clear at the moment. Two years remain on his contract but there has to be concern about the amount of playing time he will receive for the duration of his contract.

Is it going to happen?
In previous reports, Chicharito’s potential move to MLS never materialized into an actual signing. LAFC’s bid for him back in 2017 was probably one of the best bets for his entrance into the league. Once again, the expansion club is linked to the forward and are one of the top destinations for him.
The biggest concern here is that LAFC are out of Designated Player spots which makes this a tough call to make if your LAFC. Carlos Vela and Diego Rossi have performed exceptionally in the opening weeks of the season and to try and buy down one of those players may not be the best move considering their offensive production.
Andre Horta is coming abroad soon as well and at the age of 21, a buy-down would not be a good decision to make for the young players first season in MLS and his future in the league as a whole.
Other clubs like DC United and Real Salt Lake can offer Chicharito the playing time and starts he has not been getting in England as of late.
Chicharito still possesses the skill and goal scoring capability to stay in Europe’s top leagues. If West Ham decides to sell him this summer then there will likely be other European clubs in top flights across Europe asking for his transfer.
