USMNT abroad: Novakovich tear continues, Boyd scores and more

Andrija Novakovich’s 18th league goal of the season highlights the weekend that was for USMNT players abroad. Here’s how they all fared.

As mentioned, American abroad and prospective USMNT Andrija Novakovich was once again on the score sheet for Telestar in the Dutch second division. The striker has an impressive 18 goals in 29 appearances in the Eerste Divisie. His week would get even better as he received his first national team call-up.

Novakovich wasn’t the only American player to find the back of the net. Terrence Boyd scored for Darmstadt in the Bundesliga 2 in the 18th minute against Nurnberg.

Elsewhere, Kyle Scott scored the lone goal for Chelsea’s U-23 team against Arsenal. Joe Gyau scored for Sonnenhof in the 3 Liga in Germany.

Morgan Brian was a goalscorer for Lyon in their 10-1 rout of Lille.

The Rundown

Fabian Johnson returned to action for Borussia Mönchengladbach after three months off due to injury. He entered in the 81st minute of Mönchengladbach 3-3 draw with Hoffenheim.

Christian Pulisic played 70 minutes for Borussia Dortmund in their big 1-0 win over Hanover.

Tim Ream played all 90 minutes of Fulham’s 2-2 draw with Queens Park Rangers.

Booby Wood (Hamburg) entered in the 65th minute and Aron Johannsson (Werder Bremen) came off the bench in the 90th minute. Johannsson was selected for the USMNT training camp but had to withdraw due to an Achilles problem.

It was bad news for Freiburg defender Caleb Stanko. The Michigan native tore his meniscus and will require surgery.

Joe Corona came on as a substitute for Club America in the 43rd minute.

Matt Miazga played all 90 minutes of Vitesse’s scoreless draw with Hercules in the Eredivisie.

Julian Green started for Greuther Furth in their 2-1 loss to Erzgebirge Aue.

Cameron Carter-Vickers played all 90 minutes of Ipswich Town’s 1-0 loss to Bristol City in the EFL Championship. Antonee Robinson of Bolton Wanders made a late appearance in the 81st minute.

Geoff Cameron was absent from Stoke City’s lineup as he was out with a hamstring injury.

Landon Donovan was on the bench of Leon but did make an appearance against Lobos. William Yarbrough played all 90 minutes in net for Leon in their 2-2 draw.

Haji Wright came on as a substitute for Sandhausen in the Bundesliga 2 in the 68th minute. Alfredo Morales saw playing time with Ingolstadt also coming off the bench in the 60th minute.
