Americans Abroad Update: Green scores, Pulisic assists, and more

Christian Pulisic and Julian Green highlighted the week that was for American soccer abroad. Here’s everything you need to know.

The most famous soccer player abroad, Christian Pulisic, was a part of an incredibly entertaining match between Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday. The American midfielder assisted on Michy Batshuayi first goal of the match, one that Dortmund would go on to win 3-2 courtesy of Batshuayi’s stoppage-time goal.

Mid-week, Pulisic was able to record an assist for Dortmund in their 2-1 loss to Red Bull Salzburg in Europa League action. He has a total of seven assists in all competitions this season.

Meanwhile, Julian Green got on the scoresheet for Greuther Furth in Bundesliga 2. His club went on to defeat Kaiserslautern 2-1.

The rundown

  • Timothy Weah made another appearance off the bench for Paris-Saint Germain in Ligue 1. He entered in the 71st minute against Metz as PSG won comfortably 5-0.
  • Keaton Parks saw some playing time with Benefica’s first time in Portugal he entered as a substitute in the 83rd minute.
  • Weston McKennie made his first start since returning from injury for Schalke. He played all 90 minutes of a 1-0 victory over Mainz.

  • In the Premier League, DeAndre Yedlin played 90 minutes for Newcastle United in a massive 3-0 win against Southampton. Geoff Cameron played 88 minutes for Stoke City as they fell 2-0 to Manchester City. Danny Williams entered as a substitute for Huddersfield Town in a 0-0 draw against Swansea City.
  •  Tim Ream and Fulham continued their winning way against Ipswich Town with a 2-1 win. Ream as nominated for EFL Championship Player of the Month mid-week.
  • Matt Miazga went his usual 90 minutes for Vitesse. However, it was a rough day for the Vitesse backline as they fell 5-1 to Utrecht.
  • Kenny Saief went 90 minutes for Anderlecht in their 2-1 victory over Antwerp.
  • Former UCLA Bruin Brian Iloski made his debut for Legia Warsaw against Lechia Gdansk. He entered in second-half stoppage time for a brief cameo, but nonetheless, a big moment in his career.
  • Morgan Brian played all 90 minutes in Lyon’s 5-0 win over Soyaux in Feminine Division 1 play.
  • Landon Donovan made a 76th-minute entry for Leon in Liga MX.
  • Luca de la Torre had a goal and an assist for Fulham in Premier League 2 action.
  • Jorge Villafana played all 90 minutes for Santos Laguna against Monterrey. They would go onto win 3-2.
  • Rubin Rubio (entered in 71st minute) and Michael Orozco (all 90) both made appearances for Tijuana.
