Muhamed Keita and Benjamin Ehresmann, Out. Cristian Casseres Jr., in, and the official announcement of Kaku is yet to come for the New York Red Bulls

Farewell Muhamed Keita

MLS roster rules make player management that much harder, and on February 4th the Red Bulls announced they waived MF Muhamed Keita. In 2017, the 27-year-old was brought into the team from Lech Poznan in Poland.

Keita played in just 7 matches for the Red Bulls, and was never able to live up to expectations. Keita was brought in with high hopes and plenty of praise from those who saw him play during his time in Poland and Norway. Its unfortunate to hear of Keita’s departure because Red Bull fans never got to witness the full scope of his ability.

After the Red Bulls announced the signing of Cristian Casseres Jr. and Marc Rzatkowski on loan, there became an issue with international spots. There were just too many players with international player status for them all to stay on the roster. There are currently 10 international players on the New York Red Bulls roster, without counting Anatole Abang (on-loan) which is still too many considering the Red Bulls only have 9 spots.

The likely course of action for Red Bull is to loan an international player or two down to Red Bull 2. With the expected signing of Alejandro Romero Gamarra, an international player, roster moves will be even more necessary when the figure rises to 11.
