Friday is the first stage of the MLS Re-Entry Draft, a draft for players who are currently out of contract. Who could the Loons target?

Here are 5 potential targets for the Loons in the MLS Re-Entry Draft.

London Woodberry- The former Revolution defender could be a solid pickup for the Loons. The 24-year-old can play as a Center back or as a Right back, which are two positions where the Loons could use more depth. In a draft with so few intriguing options, it wouldn’t hurt to give Woodberry a shot.

Sheanon Williams- The 27-year-old Right back played in 15 matches for the Vancouver Whitecaps last season, and could help add depth to Minnesota’s backline.

Jose Villareal- The LA native hasn’t really lived up to the hype from a few seasons ago, and had his option declined by the Galaxy. However, Villareal is still serviceable enough to be intriguing to MLS clubs. He’s versatile as well and can play on either wing, up top, or as a #10.

Matias Laba- Once regarded as one of the best midfielders in MLS, Laba has struggled with injuries recently but has still been linked to Racing Club in Argentina. The Loons could take a chance on the 29-year-old Argentine anyway, though.

Servando Carrasco– The 28-year-old midfielder has been a bit of a journeyman in MLS, but he does have a relationship with Adrian Heath from Heath’s time in Orlando City. It wouldn’t be a shock if the Loons selected Carrasco.

Minnesota United have acquired midfielder Harrison Heath, son of Adrian Heath, from Atlanta United in exchange for a 4th-round SuperDraft pick.

In a somewhat uninspiring move for both sides, the Loons have acquired head coach Adrian’s Heath son Harrison in a trade with Atlanta United. The 21-year-old spent last season in Atlanta, where he saw about 7 minutes of action in all competitions. He spent the 3 years prior to that with Orlando City, where his minutes were also scarce.

Next: Sacramento make valiant push for MLS Expansion

Though it isn’t a move that will excite Loons fans, it has at least a semblance of upside for Minnesota, because as bad as Heath has looked in MLS play, he’s still only 21, and has some potential to at least become a serviceable rotation player. As for Atlanta, 4th round picks are basically worthless. In the last 4 SuperDrafts, only 2 players have become contributors at the MLS level, Colorado’s Dominique Badji, and Philadelphia’s Jack Elliot. The chances that Atlanta even picks a player better than Heath in the 4th round are not high.

This trade obviously isn’t exciting anyone, but hopefully, it is the first move of many in what is sure to be an exciting off-season for the Loons. It will be interesting to see what their next move is.
