Eastern Conference: Re-charged Battery begins…um, charging

A few months ago Charleston Battery were leaders of the eastern conference. Then the Gold Cup hit them. That tournament robbed them of the services of Romario Williams for 3+ weeks. Even after he’d returned, it took him a while to right his own ship much less that of the entire “Daniel Island Gunners.” Finally, some full two months after that all began the ship has righted. Even though Williams was red-carded out of his side’s last 1 and two-thirds matches the rest of the Battery have stepped up their game as well. Striker Heviel Cordoves scored twice earlier this week to help Charleston cement their spot at 3d place. All of this coming just in time for the playoffs too. But Gunners have just four matches remaining including a season finale away to Charlotte Independence. Charleston has 47 points in hand which should be sufficient to make it into the post-season. On the other hand, 8 more and they could, conceivably, take the conference title. Better to take things one match at a time and focus on the 3 points available this weekend.

And there are no two teams in the USL east who have more cause to be doing just that then…
