Toronto FC: Sebastian Giovinco runs wild in MLS Week 25
The Italian attacker has been no stranger to highlight reels during his time in MLS, but he had himself quite the week of MLS action.
Toronto FC are on a historic tear for the 2017 MLS season. After finishing runners-up in MLS Cup last year following penalty kicks, TFC have run wild this season.
They’ve amassed an astounding 56 points through 27 games, their closest competitor being NYCFC with 46.
Toronto already won the Canadian Championship Cup, they’re the clear favorites to take home the MLS Supporters’ Shield, and they looked poised to make another MLS Cup run thereafter.
Much of Toronto’s recent success the last few seasons comes from the impressive play of Sebastian Giovinco.

The Italian international has made quite the name for himself in MLS, earning the MVP award in 2015 along with making the league’s Best XI in 2015 and 2016. He will likely headline that list again in 2017 and is in the MVP discussion once again.
The accolades are no surprise for anyone who has been following Giovinco and TFC, and MLS Week 25 provided a small glimpse as to how prolific “Mighty Mouse” has been, with three of his goals being considered for MLS Goal of the Week.
A good week for Toronto FC
Toronto took the field twice this week, first hosting the Philadelphia Union before heading to Montreal to face their rivals the Impact.
They took care of business, handling the Union 3-0 before earning a 3-1 result on the road against Montreal. Giovinco put on a show as well, scoring three goals, first with this wicked set piece curler against the Union.
Giovinco did it again just a few days later, almost from the same spot, this time opting to go for the opposite side of the goal against Montreal.

Giovinco then intermediately volleyed home a cross in extra time, the immediate possession after Montreal pulled within one. It was a thing of beauty.

The strong week puts Giovinco at 15 goals for this season, four behind league leader David Villa. Toronto will now have a short break before hosting the San Jose Earthquakes September 9th.
