Conclusion

Miami’s defense, including Vega, Lahoud, and Ryan, doesn’t look any lesser than the same teams that could use them in the attack, and could add improvements to teams like Columbus and Houston who have a lot of firepower in front of shaky back lines. Although there isn’t as much evidence outside of their Open Cup run that that would be true, unlike with the attack.

Long story short, Miami FC is the real deal. They deserve all the praise the club is getting with their short history, and the team has a chance to earn a Champions League bid if they can keep their Open Cup run alive, which will only add to this discussion. On paper, all signs point to Miami not only competing in MLS but thriving. For the sake of discussion, it’s not hard to see Miami earning a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference while putting pressure on the teams at the top.

Our bold prediction is that they would be in competition with NYCFC, Orlando City, and Atlanta United for the third place slot behind Toronto FC and the Chicago Fire, who have way more strength than Miami FC could compete with on a week to week basis (as evident by the fact that MLS teams can’t do that either). For now, we’ll just keep hoping for Miami to continue their cup run, giving them a rendezvous with either New England or the Red Bulls.
