After 17 MLS games, Houston remains unbeaten at home. They don’t win on the road. Houston Dynamo supporters might solve this dilemma.

Dynamo fans get frustrated searching for answers in their lineups and formations. They need to look at their Houston Dynamo supporters section for clues. That’s the north end of BBVA stadium nicknamed Zona Naranja.

Record Supporters Tickets

The team has been selling increasing tickets in that section. Sales reached a record 1,100 seats for the June 23 draw with FC Dallas. Facing a ferocious Dallas attack focused on delivering the Dynamo’s first 2017 home loss, the home team did everything in its power using strategy, lineups, substitutions, and skill.

Supporters Edge

The only element not fully analyzed remains the record attendance supporters zone. Members include the oldest independent organization, The Texian Army, to emerging groups such as The Orange Fanaticos, who recently gathered fans for a spirited dance and parade through the stadium after a win.

"Orange Fanaticos: Though some of them started their fandom as members of the Texian Army supporters’ group, they broke off to do their own thing, built more around relaxed pre-game gathering and sitting in Section 110 behind a corner flag on the supporters’ end."

Any additional field ferocity needed at home comes from this supporters zone.

"Zona Naranja: The upper-deck set of three sections housing the team’s three main supporters’ groups. El Battalon, the team’s black-clad, barra-styled supporters’ group, stood in the middle, their energy dominating the section. They featured three trombones, a saxophone, three trumpets, and an assortment of drums, including three giant bass drums each weighing at least 40 pounds, the largest spanning a full 36 inches in diameter."

Houston Dynamo supporters have members faithfully attending Dynamo road games, no matter where they go. These normally number in the hundreds, rather than topping 1,000 as they did in the recent home appearance.

Step Up for The Post-season

If the evidence stands that Houston Dynamo supporters make the difference in performance that wanes on the road, more supporters will have to step up.

The Dynamo easily stand at or near the top of Western Conference. They will make the post-season competition. But to win the road games, the supporters edge has to appear. How to make that happen means both club and fans have to put their thinking caps on.
